  • If you are interested in exploring Lancaster County, then basing yourself in Ephrata and the surrounding communities is a great way to do it. Ephrata is a little town with a big heart and the communities that surround it have the same generous hospitality.   One of the best features of this area is its accessibility to all the sites and attractions in Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Whether you’re coming to the area for a day trip, a weekend getaway, or a week-long family vacation, you’ll be happy you made northern Lancaster County part of your trip.

One of the first questions that locals tend to hear from visitors is, “How do you pronounce this town’s name?”  It’s pronounced ‘EFF-ruh-tuh’ and is derived from biblical references which the original founders of the historic Ephrata Cloister chose for the name of their settlement.   Founded in 1732 along the banks of the Cocalico Creek by German settlers seeking religious freedom, the Ephrata Cloister is a National Historic Landmark and is open year-round for visitors and tour groups.

    Attractions / Entertainment:

If you are looking for things to do in the area you don’t have to look far.  We offer a variety of attractions in the area including museums, theaters, live entertainment, auction houses, golf courses, minor league baseball stadiums, day-spas/salons, and recreational facilities.  You might run out of time before you exhaust everything there is to do!

    Lodging:

If you are looking for a cozy romantic getaway, perhaps one of our local Bed and Breakfasts is the perfect choice for you.  Or if you’re looking for amenities like a pool and rooms that accommodate your family, one of our freindly hotels will calm your spirit.  And finally, for the rustic-outdoors set, we have campgrounds too!  All these options put you right in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country where you can explore Amish culture, colonial history, and rural American life at its best.

    Restaurants:

In case you haven’t heard, it’s all about the food in Lancaster County!  Visitors love the fresh ingredients and locally made goods! Experience the county one bite (or sip) at a time by trying out our unique restaurants, local breweries, awesome delis, and local farms and farmers markets where you can buy fresh picked produce (in season).

    Shopping:

Half of the fun of traveling is coming home with treasures that are unique to the places you visit.  We have a wide range of shopping experiences in the area that include everything from Farmers Markets, Antique Shops, Art Galleries, and Specialty Stores, to  Clothing Stores, Furniture Shops and Jewelry Stores.  You can walk our downtown district or tour the countryside to find treasures to share with friends or keep for yourself.
